Stargate Worlds

I know a great many people are fans of the movies and television show; Stargate, and the plethora of Stargate related spin-offs. I’m sure they’ll be excited to hear that a Stargate MMOG (Massively-Multiplayer Online Game) is currently in the works.

The game is being developed by Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment and does not yet have a release date. You can find more information by visitting the Cheyenne Mountain Website or MMORPG.com.

From MMORPG.com:

In the future, crossing the cosmic and spectacular expanse of space instantaneously becomes a reality. This amazing feat is accomplished with the discovery of apparatuses known simply as a Stargates which generate artificial wormholes, tearing a void through time and space. One such Stargate is found on Earth, subjecting the vulnerable blue planet to an invasion by a brutal and intelligent snake-like alien race bent on galactic domination and known as the Goa’uld. To counter this looming threat, a top-secret military base called SGC (Stargate Command) is built, and from it the first of many hand-picked teams (SG-1) is formed. Jumping across the universe, they form alliances and track down alien technology to aid in the defense of our world from the threat of alien incursion. Who will you ally with when the fate of the universe is put to the test?

Stargate Worlds is a science fiction MMORPG based on the hugely popluar Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis TV series. Its development company, Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, is a new kid on the block, but its team of industry veteran members posses a good deal of experience, having collectively shipped over 80 game titles. Stargate Worlds focuses on squad-based ranged combat and utilizes modern and science fiction weaponry, cover and terrain, but also offers a non-combat experience in the forms of detailed crafting and construction gameplay.

Being in the final stages of pre-production until probably late spring, little is known about Stargate Worlds. What is known is that playable areas in the MMO are based on both historical and fictional human time periods, alien environments, and interstellar space locales. Also, the choice to play as one of the ‘Big Four’ races within the Stargate Universe (Human, Jaffa, Goa’uld or Asgard) is planned and the MMOG will adhere to the backstory of the TV series, with players affecting future stories.

  1. Sweet I’ll have to check this out..

Kinda interesting that the company’s name is “Cheyenne Mountain”. That’s the complex name for NORAD is it not? :)

  2. The screenshots look pretty decent. I know the previous MMOG they had in the works was scraped.

Now here’s one that will bend your mind. If you look at the list of 100 first registered domain names, one will see Stargate.com being #20. It was registered in 1986. Do you suppose they, Stargate Command, have an actual time-machine?

  3. Normally I’m not a huge fan of MMOG games to date. But I’m very interested to see how this turns out.

Jason: “Cheyenne Mountain”, that IS interesting.

BRiT: I also find it intriguing if not a bit unsettling that many of them are defense contractors.
